I am a native of Jefferson Parish where I attended school within the Jefferson Parish Public School System. After graduating High School, I attended Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Children, Youth, and Family Advocacy in 2010. In 2012, I received a Master of Social Work degree from Southern University at New Orleans. I am currently registered with the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker- Board Approved Clinical Supervisor.
Throughout my career, I have served as a Mental Health Professional, delivering counseling services and resources to adolescents, adults, and families across various settings. My experience includes community mental health, where I provided therapy in clients' homes and community health centers, and working within the public school system as an Early Intervention and Special Education Social Worker. I have also served as a Clinical Supervisor providing licensure supervision for the past eight years. I have extensive experience in supporting individuals with ADHD, PTSD, anxiety, grief and loss, parenting challenges, adjustment to life transitions, and emotion management.
My greatest joys as a Social Worker are seeing my client's overcome obstacles and transform themselves and their life as they become all they were created to be and helping other social worker grow and carve out their own path as a professional. I fully believe that greatness exists within each of us; it is our responsibility to uncover and release it.
Counseling is provided using an Eclectic Approach to therapy. The eclectic approach uses strategies and techniques from various theories to create the most individualized and effective interventions ensuring that the client's therapy is catered specifically to their needs to achieve their desired outcome.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) are evidenced-based practice interventions that work for a wide variety of diagnosis. CBT examines patterns of thoughts and actions to better understand the clients’ problems and develop solutions. SFT is brief psychotherapy that builds on the strengths of the clients to develop solutions for their problems and is proven effective with improving behavioral issues, interpersonal dynamics, problem solving skills, and transitional skills. Both are evidenced based and proven effective with diagnosis ranging from anxiety and depression to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and emotion/ anger problems.
"Therapy isn't just what I do, it's part of who I am. It's my calling." ~ Jacosta Parker-Hughes, LCSW-BACS
